Do you want to design, develop and deliver science-based activities to local school children, engage and inspire them, while meeting new people, gaining new skills, CV points and let’s not forget the pebble pad opportunities?
Then NextGen Scientists is for you!
Want to get involved?
We are now looking for volunteers for our events this spring semester
Who are we?
NextGen Scientists is a student-based project which aims to inspire the next generation of young scientists. This project allows university students to create and deliver science-based activities to local school children. These events are delivered at The School of Veterinary Medicine and Science or in local schools.
The collaborative input from university students allows their knowledge, experience and skills to combine, resulting in the creation of activities which are unique, educational and inspiring. This project links primary and secondary school science curricula to aspects of university-level science. This means that university students are able to reinforce aspects of the national science curriculum with an innovative approach.
What can I do?
As a NextGen Scientist volunteer you will be able to find a role that suits you. The project will allow you to participate in teaching, schools liaison, widening participation, community outreach, and activity design. The NextGen Scientist Project enables you to shape activities to match your individual interests and skillset.
Being a NextGen Scientist Volunteer is extremely rewarding and you will develop many highly transferable skills. Here are just some of the great skills you will be sure to develop: planning and organisation; teamwork and collaboration; leadership; and communication.
Once a year committee roles will become available, which is an excellent oppertunity for those with experience of NextGen who would like to take their passion further! Click here to find out more about the current committee!
