About us

We’re looking to recruit 8 enthusiastic, creative and reliable event officers to join our Students’ Union Events Team. As a team we help to organise and run some of the Students’ Union biggest events from Varsity through to Graduation Ball.

As well as getting to organise and run the events, we’ll provide you with free first aid training and employability workshops! You’ll be able to get references and some amazing experience to add to your CV, all whilst being a part of a fun and thriving team.

Don’t worry if you haven’t previously had any events experience, we will provide you with full training and support along the way!

About your role

Starting from the 2019 – 2020 academic year, we will be changing the structure of the team to include specific job roles! We will now be offering a number of roles that will allow you to gain employability skills in the role you are most interested in, and ultimately you can grow the role to make the team the best it can be!

The new Event Officer Job roles are as follows:

Social Media and Marketing Officer (x2)
Varsity Lead Officer (x2)
Theming Officer (x1)
Logistics and Safety Officer (x1) 
Performance Officer – Activities (x1)
Performance Officer – Varsity (x1)

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Support the Senior Events Coordinator with the planning and delivery of the Students’ Union events programme
  • Collate and incorporate student event ideas into event planning
  • Produce event plans, event budgets, running orders, theming concepts, scripts, key contact lists, and kit lists in conjunction with the Senior Events Coordinator
  • Conduct venue visits where applicable
  • Liaise with TEC in relation to event production
  • Liaise with suppliers / contractors
    
    Attend regular Events team meetings
  • Input new events ideas and lead on the planning and delivery of these in conjunction with the Senior Events Coordinator
  • Ensure that all events are organised to have a positive impact on the student experience
  • Attend and support the delivery of event debrief meetings
  • Provide general administration duties to the Events department

Commitment

The Student Events Team is a highly valued and integral part of the Students’ Union Events department, so please only apply if you are able to commit to regular team meetings, planning sessions and able to attend a number of events throughout the year.

The events officer role runs for a full academic year around studies and is a voluntary role.

  2. Successful applicants will be contacted by 4:00 PM on Friday 4th October, and will be asked to attend a group interview 1:00 – 3:30 PM on Wednesday 9th October. Successful applicants from that interview will then be invited to attend a short, informal individual interview either on Wednesday 23rd or Thursday 24th October.
