NYAS supports children, young people and vulnerable adults in the UK. Their volunteers are Independent Visitors for children and young people living in Foster Care and Children’s Care Homes who benefit from meeting on a one-to-one basis with an independent adult friend.

Independent Visitors are carefully matched on a 1-to-1 basis with a child/young person who is isolated in the care system. The Independent visitors meet up with their young person once a month, to take them out to fun activities, chat, listen and offer advice when needed.

Each independent Visitor is given a budget to create activities during the time they spend with their young person. You can share a hobby, interest or sport, help with school or college work or go on outings to the cinema or other fun places to help support your young person.

There is 1 day training in the IV role, followed by safeguarding and CSE training

You do not need formal qualifications just a genuine and active interest in the welfare of children and young people. Interviews and training will be provided and a satisfactory enhanced DBS and references will be required.

NYAS value commitment and expect you to meet up once a month for two years to give the young person stability in their life; You can meet with your young person once a month and this is flexible around term time, exams and your holidays. However, the opportunity also is for 1 year for older young people.
