Maggie’s Centre, based at City Hospital, provides emotional, practical and social support for those suffering with cancer, as well as their families and friends. The centre costs half a million pounds to run each year, and without volunteers and fundraisers, it wouldn’t be possible to raise this amount.
About your role
Events volunteers – Maggie’s is supported by a number of groups and events across the Nottingham area. They need a group of volunteers to help out at a wide variety of events, carrying out tasks such as selling merchandise, handling money, and being good ambassadors for the charity.
Tin and Flyer distributors – Maggie’s would like volunteers to distribute flyers and collection tins in their local area, in businesses such as shops, hairdressers, cafés and supermarkets.
Fundraising volunteers – Maggie’s are always on the look-out for new ways of fundraising, so if you have a great idea and want to organise your own event, this could be the role for you! You can do anything from a traditional bake sale or tombola, to holding a pub quiz, to doing a skydive in aid of the charity.
Fundraising events committee – If you’re interested in fundraising, but don’t quite have the confidence to strike out and organise your own event, you could join the fundraising events committee. The group meet bi-monthly and help arrange and support big Maggie’s events such as the fairs, fashion show, lunches and annual ball.
Narration volunteers – Help spread the word about Maggie’s by going out to groups of people to talk about the centre, and the work that it does.
Volunteering with Maggie's is great for people with hectic timetables, as most of the opportunities are ad-hoc. You'll be contacted about the different events and activities that are going on, and if you're available, great - go ahead and sign yourself up! If not, don't worry - there's always next time.
