Kegworth Community Library is maintained by a team of volunteers for all residents in the local area. It is part funded by Leicestershire County Council, but needs to raise an additional £5000 each year to remain open. They may be a small library, but they have big ideas, and to continue with their expansion plans, they need all the volunteers they can get!
Students are needed to help run the library alongside other volunteers. You’ll learn all about what is required to be a community librarian and support a small village charity. You’ll be welcoming visitors, locating and shelving books, processing library membership applications, and generally helping to ensure the smooth running of the library.
KCL are looking for volunteers to commit to a minimum of an hour a fortnight, for a period of around 3 months. This is such an easy way to make a huge difference to your local community in just a few short hours!
- Click the ‘Register Your Interest’ button below.
- Kelda from the Students’ Union Volunteer Centre will be in touch, and will pass on the details of the Library.
- You'll be sent an application form, and invited in for an informal chat.
- Applications are open all year round, and it shouldn't take too long before you can get volunteering!
What's in it for me?
This opportunity is a fantastic way of getting involved in your local community by giving up just a few hours of your time.
It is great for anyone interested in finding out how a library works, or anyone that is looking to gain admin or customer service experience.
