Connect is a free service available to over 18s who need help to enable them to remain independent at home. The service entails care and support workers visiting service users in their own home for up to 3 months, giving advice and sign posting to other appropriate services.
Some services users require longer periods of support to encourage them to integrate into their community and build confidence. Connect need volunteer befrienders to help with this, visiting people in their homes to provide friendship, and encourage involvement in their community. This may involve going for walks, visiting libraries and cafes, accompanying people to appointments, encouraging participation in activities, helping fill in forms, helping the client to cook, and helping them plan their day to day activities.
Connect would like volunteers to commit to a minimum of 2 hours a week with their client, any time during normal work hours, Monday – Friday. You’d be expected to commit to a minimum period of 6 months.
This opportunity will take place in various locations across Broxtowe, Gedling and Rushcliffe - to be discussed between Connect and the volunteer.

There is an application form to fill out, and then an interview to attend should your application be successful.
- A DBS check is required for this opportunity, the cost of which is absorbed by Connect.
- Full training will be given prior to starting the role.
Reasonable travel expenses/costs incurred whilst volunteering can be reimbursed - to be discussed with the charity prior to starting.
Your first few home visits are accompanied, until you are happy to visit alone. Once you start visiting without a staff member, a lone working policy is put into place.
