This opportunity is now full! The next Clicksilver programme will run in October 2017 :)

ClickSilver is a programme facilitated by Business in the Community, a charity encouraging businesses to work together and take action to help tackle some of the key issues facing society. Funded by Capital One, this programme has been set up to help older people learn basic IT skills. Many of us take for granted our ability to use laptops, tablets, the internet and e-mails, and forget that a lot of older people struggle to keep up with technology. This opportunity gives you the chance to share your skills, and help an older person feel more connected.

Volunteer Mentor – You’ll be buddied up with an older person, and you’ll work with them each week to help them achieve their IT goal. This could be setting up an e-mail address or Facebook account, helping them Skype their old friends, or even just playing games! There's no need to worry - you don’t have to be an IT whizz – remember you’ll get full training, and your knowledge will be vast compared to that of the older person you’ll be paired with!

The programme lasts for 6 weeks, and runs on a Wednesday afternoon from 1pm – 3.30pm.

Due to the nature of the course, we ask that you are available for all sessions - the older people get very disappointed if they are left without their buddy for a week!

ClickSilver computer sessions take place in the Pope Building on University Park Campus

If you would like to volunteer for ClickSilver, click on the ‘Register your interest’ button at the bottom of the page, and someone from the volunteering team will be in touch.

You will be invited to a two hour training session, which will take place at the Capital One offices a week before the programme starts.

No previous experience is needed - just come along with enthusiasm and patience!

What's in it for you?

This project is great for developing communication and teaching/mentoring skills.

Capital One are also willing to offer any student volunteering on the Clicksilver programme the opportunity for a careers chat, which could potentially lead to a placement, or even a paid role with them!

Tea and cake is provided every week, and week 5 is bake off week!
