About Us

Carers Trust East Midlands are the organisation that many carers turn to for support. They work with over 800 local carers and the people they care for, supporting people of all ages and disabilities, providing carers with essential breaks from the stresses of caring. A carer is someone of any age who provides unpaid support to family or friends whose health or wellbeing could suffer without this help. As a volunteer you would help us on the path: to provide unpaid carers with well-deserved breaks so they may return to their once forgotten lives and spend a little time focusing on what is important: themselves.

About your role

Community befriender

Carers Trust EM are looking for friendly and reliable volunteers to visit adults with a range of health conditions and disabilities, their families and carers, on a regular basis for up to three hours per week, to offer social and emotional support. In this role you will take on a number of simple yet crucial tasks, usually at the home of the person you will help. You will provide one-to-one companionship, offer a listening ear, and spend time engaging in everyday conversation, activities or hobbies. It is important to note that as a volunteer you will not provide any personal care or medication support. You will receive full training before you get started, and the team will always be on call to support their volunteers.

Young carers volunteer

This support service is for Young Carers who are aged from 7 to 17. The aim of the service is to increase the self-esteem of Young Carers, bring them in touch with their peers, reduce social isolation, gather their feedback on current services and get their ideas on how to shape future services. This exciting service supports Young Carers via carer support groups, local activities and outings. We are looking for friendly and reliable volunteers who want to have fun, join in activities and work as a team to help support the young carers. This role is wide-ranging and the support you offer will vary according to the needs of the young carers using the service and the activity or outing on offer. You will receive full training before you get started, and the team will always be on call to support their volunteers.

Marketing, promotion and events volunteer

Are you full of creative ideas and have the ability to encourage others to join in? Carers Trust East Midlands need volunteers to help plan fun, social and interactive events to connect unpaid carers in the community. These events are essential in helping build friendships, maintaining old ones and allowing people to live a life outside their caring role.

Commitment

The times/commitment will vary depending on both the role and the individual. However, Carers Trust East Midlands are keen to find a position that is flexible to your timetable and needs. A minimum commitment of one term is applicable to the community befriender role.
