Belong is a Hyson Green based charity that works with the migrant community to aid integration within the local community. They work largely with refugees and asylum seekers, though not exclusively. They have a number of projects including youth work funding by BBC Children in Need; teaching English for beginners; teaching basic internet skills for beginners; an employability programme.
About your role
Tutor for Internet Skills - Belong runs an online course which teaches people how to use the internet for basic tasks such as setting up e-mail addresses, and searching for jobs online. Volunteers are needed to help register people, and support them if they are unsure as to how to progress through the course.
You don’t need to be a computer whizz – you just need to be able to use the internet confidently. It would be advantageous, but not compulsory to speak a second language, particularly Arabic and Tigrinya.
English Language Assistant - As a volunteer, you'd be needed to act as a general classroom assistant; helping out with any tasks necessary to help it run smoothly. If you choose, there is also the opportunity to lead on classes or specific activities.
Tutor for Internet Skills A minimum of 2 hours a week, for a period of at least 3 months.
You can volunteer Monday – Friday, morning and afternoon.
English Language Assistant - 2 hours a week until the end of March (flexible around Christmas holidays and exams).
