IntoUniversity Volunteering Scheme
Deadline for applications - Friday 20th October
The University of Nottingham is working in partnership with IntoUniversity; a national charity which “provides local learning centres where young people are inspired to achieve. At each local centre IntoUniversity offers an innovative programme that supports young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to attain either a university place or another chosen aspiration” (www.intouniversity.org).
Volunteers work as mentors; meeting with individual young people to support them with their attainment, aspirations, social skills and future options. Mentoring meetings take place at one of the three local IntoUniversity centres. Volunteers will also get the chance to contribute to other activities in support of the programme, including campus tours and sessions delivered at the University and within the IntoUniversity centres.
University students are great role models for young people at the centres and they love to hear about university life and getting involved with sports and societies at university - your academic and motivational support could inspire young people to go to university!
1 hour per fortnight for 1 academic year.
You will also need to allow up to 1 hour each way for travel time if you are using public transport.
IntoUniversity has three learning centres across Nottingham. Your placement could be in Broxtowe, Hyson Green or St Ann’s. IntoUniversity staff will give details of the location that you will be based in.
