Portland Redevelopment

A space about students, for students. A self-created student experience with access to all key Students’ Union and University services

Portland Redevelopment

The big story of the Students’ Union Refresh is of course Portland Coffee Co.

We first announced it with the launch of phase 3 in March and we finally opened the doors on Monday 25 September at the start of Welcome week, finally showing off the café to everyone.

If you haven’t yet been in for a look round and sampled the food and drink (the goat’s cheese twists and pecan plaits are highly recommended) then make sure to take five minutes to see what the fuss is all about.

Your SU experience

Whether it’s your first year at Nottingham or you’re a returning student you’re bound to have seen the changes that have been happening to the Portland building. Together with the University we’ve been making changes for the last two years with new spaces being introduced - The Studio, Students’ Union Advice and the Mooch terrace. As we’ve already mentioned once or twice, the biggest improvement has been the introduction of Portland Coffee Co. ‘brewed by your Students’ Union’ which opened its doors at the start of term.

You’ve already had a sneak peek through the glass wall, but next to open will be the new Welcome Zone, where you’ll soon find reception and your Students’ Union officers.

The retail zone where you’ll soon find Blackwells, Job Zone, Heads Up and a new Students’ Union clothing shop.

A skybridge will be created to link the food court and D floor in the north side of the building

Outside we’ll have an amazing space on Portland Hill in full view of the mega screen.

While there is still work left to do and areas yet to open all of the Students’ Union and University services are open in the building.
