Welcome to the University of Nottingham Thai Boxing Club.
Thai Boxing (known as Muay Thai) is a martial art originating from Thailand that uses stand-up striking and clinching techniques. Showcased in the UFC as being the one of the main striking techniques used by fighters, it is known as ‘The art of eight limbs’, as it is characterised by the use of fists, elbows, knees and kicks to strike your opponent.
Unlike most other martial arts, Thai Boxing does not require the learning of set routines and patterns and there are no belts or grades, making it highly applicable to real life situations.
As a club, we train in a relaxed and friendly environment that is designed to allow individuals to set and achieve their own personal goals. We have a wide range of ability levels, from complete beginners, to fighters competing regularly. Our training sessions also include development of fitness, technique and sparring.
We have a strong fight team and compete in interclubs against other Universities from across the UK. Furthermore, socials occur on a regular basis allowing our members to meet outside of training.
Absolutely NO previous martial arts is required! Bring yourself down to a session wearing comfortable sports wear and give it a go! Your first session is always free – what is there to lose?
