Synchronised Swimming

Welcome to the University of Nottingham Synchronised Swimming Club

The UoN synchronised swimming club is about to enter its third year of being an official sports club at the University of Nottingham, making us one of only four official university teams in the UK.

During the club’s first year it had eighteen members, of which there was a mix of beginners and experienced swimmers, and the club managed to achieve some great things, from performing a specially choreographed UoN themed routine at the Water Polo Varsity Match 2017 to winning 1st and 4th place at the Imperial Synchronised Swimming Competition!

During the club’s second year, increased membership allowed even more success to be had. We stunned crowds with another Water Polo Varsity Match half time show and hosted our own masters level synchronised swimming competition welcoming talent from across the UK.

All training sessions will take place at the David Ross Sports Village swimming pool on University Park campus

Pool training: Thursday 5.30- 7.00 pm

Pool training: Sunday 5.00- 6.30 pm

On land stretch and flexibility training (fortnightly) :Tuesday 7.00-8.00pm

*Please note that during the lead up to competitions and performances there will be extra land walk through and swimming sessions

During the club’s first year we entered a competition hosted by Imperial College London. We entered two teams: a beginner’s team, comprised of members who were new to the sport, and an advanced team, of which the members had all previous experience of Synchronised Swimming. Both teams did exceptionally well, placing 1st and 4th.

During our second year, the club successfully organised and ran our own masters level competition, enabling us to compete with teams from across the country. In this competition we entered one solo, three duets, of which four swimmers were beginners, and two teams, of which one contained a mix of advanced swimmers and beginners. Alongside winning a gold medal, two silvers and a bronze medal, the whole club came together to host an incredible day of competitive synchro which we hope will become an annual event in the growing scene of university synchronised swimming!

Everyone was impressed by the progress made by the many beginners in our club. With help from our incredible coach Lenka and experienced swimmers with coaching qualifications, they were able to swim advanced routines alongside experienced swimmmers. We welcome men and women of all abilities to our club, whether you want to perform competitively, casually or are simply looking to try something new for the social and fitness benefits!

Additional Activities

One of the key aspects of UoN synchronised swimming club is that it is a social club as well as a sports team, therefore we aim to run monthly socials, varying from nights out to club meals. Socials are a great way to ensure that we stay a tight knit club, having fun both in and out the pool. Following the nature of the sport itself we also plan to go and watch various national synchronised swimming competitions to gain more inspiration and motivation for our own routines.

We have also been involved with filming for several organisations. This has included working with university media groups, creating an exhibition called “Lakeside to Lido” for Nottingham Lakeside Arts and filming an advert for international company MHR which has had over 30,000 views on YouTube!
