Mixed Martial Arts

Welcome to the University of Nottingham Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Club

What is MMA?

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is one of the world's fastest-growing sports with the recent surge in popularity of the premier MMA promotion the UFC. As the name suggests the sport incorporates the most effective combat techniques of all the martial arts meaning that participants are effectively optimal combat sports athletes.

How do we train?

At UoN Mixed Martial Arts we train all aspects of MMA including; stand-up combat, wrestling, takedowns, grappling and submissions. Coaching will be made up of technique based drills, sparring(non-obligatory) and general fitness. All of our sessions are intense and lively, with a friendly and informal atmosphere.

Who can do MMA?

This club is a safe, friendly and relaxed environment for everyone who is interested in MMA. People of ANY experience are welcome even if you have never done any form of martial art before as we will build up techniques from the basic level to more advanced levels as members skill levels progress. Sessions will also help to improve fitness, strength, flexibility and are generally a great way to keep healthy.

Engage sessions will take place on Thursdays (17.00 - 18.00) at the David Ross Sports Village Dojo on the first floor!

Sessions are only £3 for those without a gym membership and free for those with membership. The sessions are fun and beginner-friendly, so turn up and try out one of the fastest-growing sports in the world in a safe environment!

All equipment is provided so please just turn up in normal sportswear and you're good to go.

Our assistant coach for this year Samuel Wilding will be taking the sessions.

" I have been training in MMA, Freestyle Wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, K-1, Kickboxing and Boxing since the age of 14. Therefore, students will have the benefit of learning skills from an array of backgrounds. After suffering a shoulder injury I have been unable to compete, through these engage sessions I hope to help other students develop their MMA skills and continue to develop my own abilities.

Club membership is required to be part of UoN MMA. Membership fees for the club are £12 for the 19/20 academic year. This allows the purchasing of session packs which are required for coached sessions making these sessions £2-3 /session. Membership also allows access to our free practice (open matt) sessions.

Please note, that UoN sports and fitness membership is required to be part of our club. Early Bird membership is available until 5th October and for £209 includes the following:

Who is our coach?

Charles Libor

Having trained in Mixed Martial Arts for over 13 years via MMA itself and the various disciplines it encompasses ( Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, Boxing, Wrestling) Charles has gained a wealth of knowledge. He has coached world-class fighters many of which have competed in the UFC, Bellator and Cage Warriors. Developing as a fighter for years through the infamous Nottingham based Team Rough House Charles has competed against and coached some of the very best fighters in the UK.

Although no longer competing due to injury, over recent years he has won Gold medals in advanced division NO GI Grappling Competitions, multiple British National titles in Freestyle Wrestling and represented Team GB in international Competition for Freestyle wrestling.

Charles is a UFC certified coach and his focus now lies on training up and coming amateur fighters; helping them to develop ready for competitions, by ensuring they skilled and conditioned enough to compete.
