Welcome to the University of Nottingham Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Club
What is MMA?
Mixed Martial Arts is a combination of primarily Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and Wrestling, with elements of Boxing, Tae-kwon Do and Sambo.

Viewed as the best possible blend of combat skills for competition, training in a variety of martial arts will make you fitter, stronger, faster and more flexible. At the same time, you will be acquiring martial arts and self-defense skills (and if you want to get involved with any competitions, that's great too). Fighters are some of the best conditioned athletes in the world, so it obviously works!
Who can do MMA?
Anyone. Every single individual, male or female, can benefit from MMA from both a physical and mental perspective.
We are hosting taster sessions for anyone who’d like to try MMA on Wednesday 27th September 4-6pm and Monday 2nd October 5:30-7:30pm at the Jubilee Studio. This is free-of-charge and all are welcome –it doesn’t matter if you’ve never tried any martial arts before!
Membership fees for our club are £12 for the 17/18 academic year. This includes a discount on the coached sessions which are £2-3 each with a session pack and also access to our free practice (open matt) sessions.
Please note, that UoN sports and fitness membership is required to be part of our club. Early Bird membership is available until 6th October and for £189 includes the following:
- Access to the new £40 million David Ross Sports Village
- Three fully-equipped fitness suites
- Over a hundred weekly group exercise classes
- 25m pool
- Indoor sports halls and squash courts

How do we train?
We train both grappling and striking techniques in sessions: a combination of sport-specific fitness drills, technique practice, and open mat jiu-jitsu, takedowns, sparring and general fitness. All of our sessions are intense and lively, with a friendly and informal atmosphere.
Who is our coach?
We are coached by ex-thai boxer turned MMA coach Stephen Papp, who coached Dan Hardy to his UFC Welterweight Title shot (the UFC is the world's leading MMA promotion). Dan is the first British fighter in UFC history to compete for a title, and remains a contender within the division. To find out more about him, visit his website at http://stevepapp.co.uk/

Mondays (Coached Training-All levels) 5:30-7:30pm @ Jubilee Sports Centre, Studio
Wednesdays (Coached Training-All levels) 4-6pm @ David Ross Sports Village, Dojo
Thursdays (Open Matt/Practice Session-Intermediate level) 6-8pm @ David Ross Sports Village, Dojo
