University of Nottingham Ladies Lacrosse Club
"Work hard, play hard".
Welcome to University of Nottingham Ladies Lacrosse club! We welcome players of all abilities from complete beginners to elite players. In 2017-2018, Ladies Lacrosse was one of the most successful sports clubs in the university. Our 1st team compete in the Premiership, and last season finished 2nd and for the first time in the club's history, we got through to the semi-finals of the Championship. Our 2nd, 3rd and 4th teams compete in Leagues Midlands 2A, Midlands 2B and Midlands 3A respectively.
From 2018/19, we have decided to take part in the university's Engage Beginners programme, which are additional beginner sessions where students can drop in and play lacrosse! We are hoping that this will increase the profile of the game, grow our lacrosse community and provide a much more holistic journey for our players through these sessions, to the development squad and then onto one of the BUCS teams. If you want to give lacrosse a try, come along to one of our sessions! Visit www.nottingham.ac.uk/sport/engage for more information.
Additionally, joint with Men’s Lacrosse, we are hosting a taster session for Mixed Lacrosse on Sunday 7th October 11am-12.30pm, at the 3G pitches on Jubilee Campus.
This taster is also free-of-charge and is one of the many perks of being part of the lacrosse club. Everyone is welcome, even if you haven’t played before! It’s an excellent way to meet other people in both the girls and boys’ clubs and play some light-hearted lacrosse.
We have 2 membership options: BUCS/Standard and Beginners.
Membership fees for our club are as follows: £50 for BUCS/Standard and £35 for Beginners, for the 2018/19 academic year.
Please note, that UoN sports and fitness membership is also required to be part of our club. Early Bird membership is available until 5 October and for £209 includes the following:
- Access to the new £40 million David Ross Sports Village
- Three fully-equipped fitness suites
- Over a hundred weekly group exercise classes
- 25m pool
- Indoor sports halls and squash courts

1st, 2nd and 3rd Teams train 3 times a week with additional fitness sessions, 4th team trains 2 times a week and beginners train once a week. All players in our competitive teams are required to attend all training sessions and
Our development team is for beginners to lacrosse to develop their skills in a more relaxed, non-competitive environment. Friendly matches are arranged for our development team against other similar university teams. Our development captain will also enter the team into Beginners tournaments throughout the year. Many girls, from 1st year to 3rd years, start as beginners but end up playing for the 3rd or 4th team and really enjoy it!
In conjunction with the men's lacrosse club, we have a mixed lacrosse team consisting of 1st team players to complete beginners, which has matches every Sunday.

For many girls having played both lacrosse and netball at school, it can be a tough decision to choose which one to continue once starting university. For this reason, we have entered a team in the IMS netball league. This means that anyone wanting to carry on playing netball is able to do so, with weekly Saturday matches against other clubs and societies. It allows girls from all teams to play together and encourages a more integrated club.
We go on tour with the men’s squad every Easter. An event not to be missed! Keep an eye out for the second and third years wearing Tour stash, talking endlessly about tour and look through our photo albums to get a better idea! Look out for the tour group on Facebook for more info.
We have weekly socials on Wednesday evenings and are very much connected with the boys club too, which we take pride in. Often involving fancy dress, we go to bars such as Red Bar and Ropewalk, which are in town and populated by many sports teams on a Wednesday night! After socials we head onto CRISIS!
Our Social Secs will often post the theme a week in advance to allow time to perfect costumes.
