The University of Nottingham
The University of Nottingham Cheerleading Squad is a group of outstanding student athletes who enthusiastically represent the university. Our routines include stunts, dance, and gymnastics to achieve competitive and crowd pleasing routines.
Anyone and everyone is welcome to come and join, whether you have experience or not, it's a great way to keep fit, meet new people and have loads of fun at the same time!
The Squad, also known as the Nottingham Knights, holds open tryouts at the start of each academic year which are open to all students and associates of the University. These cover a range of skills from dance, jumping, stunting and tumbling. We encourage everyone to come and tryout, no matter your gender or experience!
We are hosting try-outs on the 1st, 3rd and 6th of October. These will be held as follows:
- 1st October, 6:30pm-9:30pm, David Ross Sports Village (DRSV) Hall 2 , on University Park campus.
- 3rd October, 6pm-10:30pm, DRSV Studio 2 (you will not be required for the entirety of the session, you will instead be given a performance time slot at the first tryout).
- 6th October, 6-9pm, Jubilee Sports Centre (JSC) Hall 1, on Jubilee Campus.
All stages of try-outs are compulsory to continue. Tryouts cost £5 per try-out and we recommend that you arrive early. Please wear any comfortable clothing that you can dance in. Please purchase the tryout on the side bar of this page, and only purchase each tryout once you have successfully completed the previous tryout.

Performance squad is made of 28 girls who perform an amazing routine at the Futsal and Lacrosse varsity games. Their routine consists of dance and stunts, and they put on a great show! You can watch their 2019 performances on our Youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUOzkY8UJj0.
Every year our varsity squad performs new and innovative routines at Basketball, Football, Ice Hockey, American Football, Rugby Union and Rugby League varsity games. You can watch all of our 2019 Varsity performances on our Youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0ykNDwVJXEQCaO55vUQZjA
Every member also has the opportunity to try out for the competition squad, made up of 30 girls who participate in regional and national competitions at the complex senior level 3. At the ICC British Open in 2015 we came in 2nd place, and in 2016 we came 1st and division champs at ICC Eastern.
In 2019 we placed 1st for University All Girl Level 3 at ICC British Open, and with the highest score in the entire competition we won National and Grand Champions. Click here to watch our winning performance! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdaGZVTBVKA
Our performance squad trains every Tuesday evening. Our varsity squad trains twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and additional practice (Sunday evenings and occasional Wednesday afternoons) is required for our optional competition squad. A standard practice session covers a wide range of skills starting with a warm-up, and can include dance sessions, stunting, jump sessions, conditioning and finishes with cool-down.
As a squad, our social life is second to none. We have regular socials every alternate Wednesday evening, these begin at our sponsor bar and then progress onto Crisis at Rock City. These are a lot of fun; a fantastic opportunity to make new friends and for the squad to bond and develop as a team, plus fancy dress is usually on the cards! This year our sponsor is Albert's so we are looking forward to having our socials there! As a member of the squad, you also get the opportunity to go on tour during the Easter break.
As well as socialising, our squad is involved with various charity work. We support a local charity, Forget-Me-Notts, and hold various charity fundraisers throughout the year, such as our Christmas wrap and our Easter bag-pack.
