The University of Nottingham offers a fantastic opportunity for students of all abilities to play tennis. This year the club has an impressive 9 teams competing in the BUCS league and a strong club tennis program.

The University of Nottingham Tennis Club is able to take advantage of the first class facilities at the Nottingham Tennis Centre adjacent to the University. Training and matches are played throughout the year at the Tennis centre.

Team Tennis

Team tennis at the University of Nottingham is competitive. It is a great achievement for the University to have 9 BUCS teams (5 Men and 4 Women) competing, with the Women's 1st team in the Premier North Division and the Mens 1st team competing in Midlands 1A division the standard of competition is high. The BUCS league and cup matches run through most of the year, matches commence in October during which teams will train weekly with academy standard coaches to improve their game. If you are interested in getting involved in team tennis make sure you come to trials usually hosted at the beginning of the University year.

Join the Tennis Club online, you can pay by cash or card in the student activities in Portland Building or online by adding to your basket on the top right-hand side of the page. If you are in a team you need to purchase the team membership and for playing social tennis you need to purchase the standard tennis membership.

Club Tennis

Club tennis allows players to participate in weekly sessions to improve their tennis skills while having fun and offers a great amount of flexibility. Groups are divided into 3 coached sessions of similar ability (beginner, intermediate and advanced) so that you can make the most out of your game and these sessions are run every week on a Wednesday and Sunday. This year we are really fortunate to have secured access to the courts at the Nottingham Tennis Centre, giving club tennis access to 19 outdoor courts every Wednesday, along with access to indoor courts on a Sunday.

As well as these regular sessions, your membership fee of only £45 gives you access to: the chance to play in multiple intra-mural competitions, timed tennis tournaments and internal club championships; and of course regular tennis socials. We have also recently launched our Cardio tennis sessions which is a great way to keep fit and play tennis and costs £3 if you don’t have a gym membership.

The great advantage of club tennis is that you can choose your commitment, allowing you to sculpt the sessions to your ability and interests. Whether you want to play competitively in tournaments against other UoN tennis players or just play casually with friends, this is the club for you!

Make sure you join our Facebook page as this is where all notices will be posted! Any questions email Jemma at

Engage Tennis

We also run a Tennis Engage session once a week on a Wednesday from 1-2 and this session is open to ALL students. No sports membership is required and all abilities are welcome- there are no trials or set teams. Just turn up and play. Sessions are £3 without sports membership

IMS Tennis

There will be several IMS tournaments throughout the year. Players' results for these tournaments will gain points which contribute towards a league table running through both semesters. The system is roughly based on the professional ATP structure with added opportunities to gain bonus points.
