Growing on our proud achievements of previous seasons, including our 1st XV's most recent BUCS Vase and Varsity Champions success in 2012/13, the University of Nottingham Rugby Union Club enters the new season with some incredibly ambitious and exciting plans set to unfold, both on and off the pitch, in order to continue the successes of previous seasons.

In 2015/16, the University of Nottingham Rugby Club will be represented by four sides in a brand new club setup made up of players from last season, incoming Fresher’s, Sutton Bonnington Rugby Club players and any other players looking to play rugby at the University for the first time.

Our 1st XV side currently compete in the BUCS Premiership A (North) League against some of the best University sides in the country, including Durham, Loughborough and Leeds Metropolitan, whilst our four other teams compete against the most competitive regional University sides across four separate leagues.

Throughout the sides of the club, we maintain a culture and attitude which we pride ourselves on. All sides train seriously and professionally three times a week as a minimum and compete separately on Wednesday’s afternoon. But when the final whistles sounds, we ensure we celebrate and socialise as a collective, enjoying off-field activities with players who competed, those not selected, injured players and those who are simply part of the club to train and enjoy the club environment.

In recent years, the club has produced no fewer than five England student representatives including Tim Streather and Chris Wyles. We also maintain a strong link with Nottingham Rugby Club who compete in The Championship, with opportunities for players who impress at University level to appear for the professional outfit. Just last season we were proud to have two of our 1st XV players, Alex Boggis and David Priest, sign contracts with Nottingham Rugby.

The Rugby Club at Nottingham prides itself on appealing to players from all ages and abilities. With a new coaching setup and improved facilities, including the recruitment of our first ever Director of Rugby and the acquisition of the impressive Sutton Bonnington ground, 2013/14 is set to continue such successes as we look to build on the fantastic work of previous seasons.

We welcome anyone and everyone who is keen to work hard and be part of an aspiring, growing and proud rugby club setup.

Socials:

The club traditionally holds a weekly social on Wednesday evening after our BUCS fixtures, providing the opportunity for all players to meet, socialise and enjoy a few drinks after the day’s games. The socials are run by our social secretaries that pride themselves in making each social as exciting, original and appealing to as many people as possible each week.

The club also holds various socials outside a Wednesday evening format, including our famous annual Club Dinners. Details of all our social events will be displayed through the clubs Facebook page and Twitter pages.

Tour:

All members of our club are invited and strongly recommended to join our annual Club Tour over Easter. In 2012 the club experienced the delights of Prague, where we beat RC Tatra Smichov of the Czech KB Extraliga on a trip thoroughly enjoyed by all. Last year the club took to Budapest for a fantastic long weekend which is widely regarded as one of the best weeks of many of the touring parties University careers.

The 2016 tour is to be led by Tommy Willis, which will again be displayed on the club’s website, Facebook and Twitter pages nearer the time. Start saving.

Trials:

Trials for the 2015/16 are being reorganised and restructured to ensure each player has as fair a chance as any player of making the University Rugby Club.

First years wishing to join the club and anyone looking to try for the rugby club for the first time will need to trial on Thursday 24th September at our Highfields ground at 11am. All those who are successful and impress the coaches will then be invited back to a final trial on Friday 25th September.

Remember that there are still some fantastic opportunities for students to play rugby at Nottingham outside our BUCS sides. Through our fantastic IMS Rugby programme, tag rugby tournaments, UoN Engage initiatives and various other schemes, there is an opportunity for everyone at Nottingham to learn, play and enjoy rugby throughout their time here.

Touch Rugby Engage is held every Sunday at 1-2pm and is open to everyone - member of the club or not!

For further details of our trial process, check the club website and Facebook page.
