University of Nottingham American Football Club

About Us

We are the University of Nottingham’s American Football Club (UoNAF). We play in the BUCS Division 1A Midlands , part of largest student american football league in Europe where we compete against the likes of the University of Warwick Wolves & University of Leicester Longhorns. We also take part in the prestigious annual Varsity Match against the school across the city.

For any women interested in non-contact, check out our Women’s Flag Football team.

Join the Team
We welcome all students of the University of Nottingham to join us, regardless of experience. The majority of our players haven’t played American Football prior to joining University, many have previously played the likes of Rugby, Soccer and Basketball and join the team to seek out the opportunity and challenge of competing in a new sport as their athletic attributes translate well to the game’s demands.

We train multiple times per weeks which includes practising scrimmages and positional drills on the University’s 3G Astro, Strength and Conditioning workouts in the DRSV High Performance Zone and learning plays and positioning in the classroom. We have expert staff with national/international playing/coaching experience that have coached to an incredibly high standard, and our coaches specialise in all three facets of the game (offence, defence and special teams) as well as their individual positions.

Equipment

As you can imagine, a new set of American football gear can be very expensive. At our club you can get all the playing equipment that you need rented to you for the year from the team, at a  much cheaper price than if you were to buy it all yourself.

Aside from the pads, jersey and helmet that you will be provided, you’ll need comfortable clothing and suitable footwear for the university’s 3G astro.

Socials

The American Football Club are known for hosting many socials including Crisis Wednesdays at Rock City, Bar Crawls, Joint Socials with other teams, Boat Parties, Fancy Dress events, Christmas party, Old Boys Matches and End of Season Awards amongst many others. Not only do our socials provide an enjoyable outlet from academics, but also help strengthen our renowned team spirit, morale and camaraderie.

We are also responsible for hosting Nottingham’s largest Super Bowl Party every year so if you’re just a fan of the game who wants a great venue to watch some NFL football then you’re welcome to join us.
