Sam Richardson-Martin

Hello friends, I’m your new RockSoc president for the 2018/19 year.

My job in the society is essentially to just make sure everything runs smoothly and oversee the organization of all the events that other committee members are running. I do a lot of paperwork and such things like keeping up the SU relationship and liaising with local businesses able to help us out with deals as well as with other universities rock societies to organise potential trips. If you ever have any questions about the society and what we do don’t hesitate to give me a shout.

Apart from my work in the society I’m currently a third year Criminology and Sociology student at UoN. I enjoy watching horror movies (especially the classics) and eating good food so if either of these things are up your street hit me up. My music taste is a bit of a mess to be quite honest, but I tend to enjoy a bit of everything, with the main bands I listen to being Machine Head, Pantera, Gojira, Rob Zombie, and Sepultura (I also LOVE Wham!).

Hope to see y’all soon at some events!

Rachel Waters

Vice president

Yo, Rock Soc members! I’m Rachel and I’m your Vice President for this academic year. My job is to run our weekly event “Piracy” every Tuesday from 8pm-midnight at Ye Olde Salutation Inn in the city centre. This event gives us all a chance to listen to some of the best tunes from the rock and metal scene and to hang out with some great people. “Piracy” also gives people the opportunity to have a 40-minute DJ slot if they want to play some of their favourite songs. This is a great way of meeting new people and bonding over great music tastes. You just have to ask me, as your VP, if you would like a slot one week. Feel free to ask me at either Piracy or send me a message on Facebook.

This is the fourth year I’ve been a member of the society and have previously helped out with Gen Sec in the past. I’m really looking forward to the events this year and the interesting themes we will have at Piracy throughout the year. Theme nights will happen every couple of weeks and will include some fun activities that you can take part in and maybe win some prizes provided by our own committee members!

About my music taste… Some old and some new. Anything from Iron Maiden to Muse, Slipknot to AC/DC. I’m also partial to a bit of Disturbed and Bullet For My Valentine.

Aside from Rock Soc, I’m a final year student in Modern Languages here at UoN. I study French and Spanish so hit me up if you’re interested in anything to French or Spanish culture.

Really looking forward to this year on committee and being a part of an awesome society.

James Winters

Social Secretary

Hey, I’m James. I'm the social secretary for this year, so it is my job to organise events for you guys at RockSoc. Feel free to come and chat about anything concerning the society whether it is a particular event, an idea for one or just a general enquiry. I will happily hear you out!

I have been a member of the society since almost day one of my time here and it is one of the best choices I have ever made. Like me, you will meet some really sound, like-minded people here and potentially make some long lasting friendships. If you like a band, you will be sure to find someone here that is just as big a fan as you.

James Jones

How’s it going dudes and dudettes? I’m James, the treasurer for Rocksoc 2018/19.

For the most part you won’t even know I exist as a committee member, I’ll be making sure we always have the funds to keep the rock n’ roll party going. However, any problems, feel free to ask me and I’ll point you in the right direction. You should be able to find me at Piracy, if not, I’m sure we’ll meet at another event.

If you see me around, come over and have a chat, I always have time to talk about music! I’ve been listening to Slipknot for years and will always have them on a playlist. However, when I’m in the mood to chill, I tend to let Black Sabbath play back to back. That said, more recently, I’ve been obsessed with the unique rock-opera style of Brendon Small (Dethklok).

This is my third year with Rocksoc and I know it’ll be just as good as the last two! See you there!

Sam Lorenz

General secretary

Isaac Swift

Gig secretary

Do you like gigs? I do gigs! My job is to organise and run all concerts for the society. Typically there will be 3 or 4 throughout the academic year and I try to incorporate any bands that can be classified under the banner of rock, be that punk, metal, indie etc. If you would like to see any bands play at any of our gigs please let me know.

I'm also responsible for arranging the November exodus to Leeds for Damnation festival. It should be awesome this year and you should definitely go if you like metal (or if you don't, I won't stop you!)

The bit about me. I'm a masters student studying MSc Statistics. I like climbing, squash, films, and (shockingly) music as well as plenty of other things! I tend to listen to more punk and less metal than some others in the society but it's an eclectic mix covering most genres. Feel free to talk to me about any of that stuff!

Aimee Doherty

Hello! I'm Aimee, I'm a 4th year Human Genetics student and the new Rocksoc Publicity Officer for 2018/19. I joined Rocksoc in my second year and sorely wish that I didn't miss it in my first! I've met some of the best people and have had awesome nights out and social organised by our amazing committee, hence why I decided to be on it!

I was the Gig Secretary for Rocksoc in 2017/18 and decided to stay as the Publicity Officer for 2018/19! This means you can be expecting some emails from me updating you of what’s up each week.

On a rather related note, I have quite a range of taste in music and am terrible at telling which genres they are. So pretty much anything you can class as rock from classic rock to punk to death metal. I'm always open to recommendations!

Anyway, come along to some socials, we would love to meet all of you!
