Musicality is a thriving society at the University of Nottingham, that has won the Gold Society Award and Best Showcasing for the past three years! We unite all aspects of musical theatre from singingdancing and acting, to producing, directing, choreographing, musically directing and more! There are opportunities for everyone to get involved, regardless of previous experience or ability, whether it's on stage or behind the scenes!

Each semester we put on a showcase with unauditioned ensemble numbers as well as auditioned songs including solos, duets, small groups and dance numbers. Our rehearsals are every Thursday night at 19:45 in the Music Rehearsal Hall - we'd love to see you there!

We are thrilled to announce that our next upcoming shows are:

Little Shop of Horrors - this will be our second show this year, with audition applications closing on the 6th March. Find more info on the Musicality Facebook page and on the production's social media!

Love, Laughter and Loathing - this is our Spring showcase with songs from a variety of musicals under the theme 'love, laughter and loathing'. Come along and see us perform on the 5th and 7th April. Info is on the Facebook event here:

Musical of Musicals - this is our Edinburgh Fringe show for this Summer! Applications for Director are still open and auditions info will be announced soon!

Additionally, every year we put on various auditioned musical productions. This includes the annual large-scale production, our most recent shows being:

  • Made in Dagenham (2019)
  • Sister Act (2018)
  • Fame! The Musical (2017)
  • Anything Goes (2016)
  • The Producers (2015)
  • Phantom of the Opera (2014)

We also occasionally put on a second smaller full-scale production during the Summer, such as:

  • The Brain From Planet X (2018)
  • Saucy Jack and the Space Vixens (2016)

Musicality are consistent attendees at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, performing shows such as:

  • Ordinary Days (2018)
  • [title of show] (2017)
  • Like Clockwork (2016), an original musical written for Musicality

We pride ourselves not only in our performances but also in our regular socials such as the annual Musicalitour (weekend residential trip with workshops from West End practicioners), annual scav-hunt, bar crawls, film showings, workshops, open-mic nights, boat parties, society meals, local and West End theatre trips, an end of year awards night, and more! Members of our society are welcome to audition for any of the above performace oppertunities, apply for behind the scenes roles (from director to rehearsal pianist to costumes manager) or simply enjoy the rehearsals and socials as fun activities!

Made in Dagenham, Nottingham Arts Theatre, February 2019

This show follows Rita O'Grady, the unlikely leader of the machinists' strike in 1968 that triggered the Equal Pay Act. Follow Rita, her co-workers, husband and the politicians of the time as they struggle with the difficulties in striving for equality.
This show received many wonderful reviews from East Midlands Theatre, Kev Castle, Impact and more!

Ordinary Days, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, August 2018

This year's Fringe production was Adam Gwon's Ordinary Days, a tale about four indiviudals in New York city navigating everyday life, told in a way that is anything but 'ordinary'! The experience is once-in-a-lifetime and the cast and crew were awarded extremely postive reviews for the show!

THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X, Summer production, June 2018

This past Summer Musicality performed The Brain From Planet X as our smaller scale Summer production in the Studio Live in our SU. This wacky muscial follows a 1950s American nuclear family attempt to save the day as aliens invade Earth! We had so much fun putting on this prodution with the crazy costumes, wonderful music, hilarious script and live band! It was a brillaint way to let off steam in the run-up to exams and I would definitely recommend taking part in the summer show! Check out the Instagram here

SISTER ACT, Nottingham Arts Theatre, February 2018

Our large-scale annual production for this past academic year was Sister Act! which recently won 'Best Showcasing' at the Societies Ball! This famous story of a club-singer seeking refuge in a convent and teaching them the joy of music was so much fun and a wonderful show for Musicality. We performed the show in the Nottingham Arts Theatre in town for 5 shows!
