The Mic

The Mic is the University of Nottingham's Official Music Magazine - created by students, for students.

We are Nottingham's biggest music publication. We send our members and vastly expanding team of journalists to review gigs across Nottingham, for no cost, whilst providing opportunities to interview internationally-renowned artists and rising local talent. We have already consolidated the magazine as the leading music-oriented publication at the University and are working towards creating the largest music network in Nottingham. We work closely with Nottingham-based venues and have held widely-praised fundraising gigs at Nottingham’s Bodega.

How can you get in on this?  That's where we come in.  Here at The Mic, we seek free guest-lists for gigs all across Nottingham, as well as grabbing interview opportunities and pre-release albums from some of the biggest names in the business.  Be it a local unsigned act looking for a major breakthrough, an American hip-hop phenomenon gracing Rock City's hallowed stage or even a Disney tribute act, we'll do our best to get you on the front row.

What do we get from this?  That's where you come in.  Our magazine would be nothing without articles; nothing but a mere blank canvas, drabber than a post-2004 Christmas No. 1 and more pointless than an Iggy Azalea audiobook (mmm, controversial).  If you go to a gig, hear an album or simply have a burning passion for the Rutland Reggae scene, we want to hear about it.  Everything you write will go on our brand-spanking new website, whilst a select few of the most diverse and interesting articles will receive the coveted prize of a feature in our printed magazine.

Throughout the year, we'll:

Get you into any gig across Nottingham.
Get exclusive opportunities for you to interview your favourite musicians.
Host gigs around campus, showcasing both student and local talent.
Create a thriving network of music lovers, where members can share alike interests, "buddy-up" to gigs and discover new music.
Run socials to both popular and obscure club nights.

Check us out on Facebook, Twitter and our website.
