We are a group of healthcare students (GEM/GENs) based in Royal Derby Hospital who spend Tuesday and Thursday evenings volunteering to play with patients on the children’s wards.
The Hospital Play Specialists end work at 5:30, so our sessions run from 5:15-7:15 to allow handover. There is no minimum (or maximum!) committment - you can pick your own volunteer slots and volunteer with friends (or meet new ones) in groups of 2-3!
Each session involves providing fun, tailored activities for any children well enough and willing to participate, such as arts and crafts, Lego, movies, video games (including the ever-popular Mario Kart), sensory play, music sessions, board and card games.
To get involved, please:
- Join the Outlook Group and Facebook page
- Complete your safeguarding training (October/additional sessions TBC)
- Send us scans of your documents (student ID, DBS certificate)
- Book onto sessions at your convenience via the Outlook Group
