Welcome to the Black and Minority Ethnic Students' Network!
The UoNSU BME Network represents all students studying at the University of Nottingham who self-identify as African, Caribbean, Asian, Arab or Jewish heritage, and anyone who experiences racism, antisemitism, or islamophobia.
Our membership is completely free, and will put you onto our mailing list, so you can keep updated on our events and campaigns. It will also allow you to run and vote in our Network elections.
The BME Network has three main roles:
Events that make you feel welcome: From Valentine’s parties to BME career events, the BME Network holds a wide range of events to make uni feel like a second home. This year, we hope to host the Network’s first ever Black History Month event!
Campaigning on issues that affect you: The BME Network campaigns on various issues affecting BME students. We currently work on the BME attainment gap and protesting islamophobic PREVENT duty. This year, we’re also hoping to start a ‘Decolonise the Syllabus’ campaign.
Supporting and advising you: Everyone deserves to be treated with respect, and to be judged on merit. If you experience racist discrimination or harassment, we can provide support and advice. It doesn’t have to be a hate crime either – we act against all levels of racism, no matter how small.
Our women's rep, Ken, has made a WoC of the Week blog! Check it out here: https://uonbmenetwork.wordpress.com/2018/09/28/olive-morris/
