Welcome to the University of Nottingham Asian Society!
We are an outgoing, inclusive, friendly start-up society, aiming to provide a social platform to students of the British-Asian background whilst embracing Asian culture at its roots.
Whatever your tastes of interest, we are sure our society can cater for you. This is demonstrated by the range of events we offer such as our prestigous Asian Society Ball, Take me out social, Careers and Personal Development talks, our associated Charity events and the opportunity to get involved in our sports teams. Alongside helping to form new friendships between students throughout the university, we strive to help you settle in to university life and make you feel at home, whilst enjoying a dynamic social life.
Our flagship event, the Asian Society Ball is held at that start of second term providing students with a unique opportunity to dress up for the night. The event itself features complementary drinks, a three course meal, a bar with student rate drink prices, photographers as well as a variety of entertainment throughout including a DJ and live dance performances.
The speed dating social is our first main social of the year and will be held at the end of first term. The event plays on the arranged marriage link to Asian Culture whereby we try and play Cupid to match different members of the society. This event is directly related with Project Care whereby a proportion of profits raised will be used to fund for this charity.
On a regular basis club nights will also be organised ranging from nights out in Nottingham as well as events in other cities in collaboration with other universities Asian Societies. These events will be linked with the second of our two associated charities Harmony House whereby a proportion of profits obtained throughout the year from these club nights being donated to this charity.
Members of our society who are more sporty and have a more competitive edge we are proud to offer the fantastic opportunity to get involved in our football team. After trials held at the start of the year selected individuals will be invited to represent the Asian Society in an official 7-aside league with referees whilst also getting a t-shirt with their surname and number on the back.
For those individuals who are looking for something else, promoting self-development is one of the key targets of our society. This may be on an academic basis whereby we provide career talks through integrating with other societies. We will also try and enhance the way you think through providing you with speakers who may challenge your beliefs and enable you to grow as an individual as well as providing opportunites such as charity work.
We look forward to welcoming you to the ASOC Family <3
