Data protection and privacy
Your personal information is important
We’re here to make sure that, as members of the Students’ Union, you can fulfil your potential, meet your aspirations and have an incredible time at University. You’re at the heart of the Union and this includes making sure your personal information is safe when we use it.
We also employ staff and engage volunteers, work with suppliers and have customers for our commercial services, so the information on this page is for those people too.
The way we manage and process your personal information was previously governed by the Data Protection Act 1998. This has been updated for the modern world and from the end of May 2018, it’s governed by the Global Data Protection Regulations (GDPR). Here we aim to explain how we manage your information in line with our responsibilities and what this means for you.

The Union and our portfolio of social enterprises carefully curate marketing and communications that might be relevant to you. Sometimes we need to send essential information where we believe there is a legitimate interest in you receiving this.
We always provide a way to opt out of our communications without affecting your membership, and we will never sell your data to third parties.
