Last week Katie Mackay (Equal Opportunities and Welfare Officer) and Teddy Smith (Accommodation and Community Officer) met with University of Nottingham’s Head of Student Services to lobby for direct student consultation in the review of the pastoral care system in halls. The meeting was arranged as a direct result of the open letter that was sent last week; at the meeting the Students’ Union Officers called for direct consultation with students on the changes. After much debate it was agreed that students would be actively consulted in the implementation of the changes, to ensure that any negative change in the student experience can be dealt with. The Union and University will now work together to achieve this. The Union’s original aim in the Your Hall, Your Call was to lobby the University to consult with students on this massive changes and this has now been achieved.
The Union now aims to consult with at least 1000 students on these changes and will meet with the University soon to plan how to implement this process.
