In partnership with the Careers & Employability Service, this networking event was exclusively open to members of Societies, Sports Clubs and Student-Run Services, as a thank you for your dedication across the year. This years’ event was held on Wednesday 20th February (6.30pm – 8:00pm) in Portland Coffee Co, Portland Building, University Park campus.
The aim of the event was to provide you with the opportunity to meet with recruiters and alumni from a range of sectors and have a chat with them about their internships, graduate opportunities and to get any tips and hints about getting a job from their own career journeys.
This year featured representatives from the following sectors
- Here's what some students who attended the event had to say!
I found this to be a really useful evening with many speakers offering tips for interviews and finding careers.
I enjoyed the fact that it was quite laid back, and also that the employers came to us rather than us moving to them as I feel this made them more approachable. The ‘informal’ atmosphere also made it more of a conversation rather than a normal networking event, and also meant that employers opened up a bit more on a personal level rather than staying within the professional realms of conversation, and we could ask deeper questions. The location definitely helped with this! I also liked the diversity of employers, with some large organisations but also local SMEs from various industries, who showed us that we don’t need to move to London and work for one of the large corporations to be successful - I think this is something a lot of us needed to hear, as typically networking events and careers fairs are focused on the bigger organisations with huge grad schemes.
I particularly enjoyed being in groups as I did not only get to meet the employers and alumni but different people from various societies. I never realised just how many societies there are and what all wonderful things they offer.
