Politics

Are you a student of the School of Politics and IR, or just interested in politics and current affairs?

The Politics Society is a large, politically-neutral society dedicated to complementing the work of the School of Politics and Internal Relations and providing a social outlet for all politically-minded students at the University.

What do we do?

We provide a diverse range of activities, ranging from our annual trip to Westminster and our termly socials (including boat cruises, quizzes, bar crawls, and even rounders games!) last year we hosted a new European trip, visiting Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Brussels and Amsterdam for a week.  This year we are replicating our award-winning USA trip to Washington DC and New York, where we were have tours of the UN, Congress, the Pentagon and the Supreme Court.

We also place some students on our community teaching project in Nottingham, organise Football, Netball and Rugby teams for our members to play other societies, and of course host our huge Annual Spring Ball at the end of the year.

But we do more than just socials and trips!

As a Departmental Society we think it is important to provide more than just social activities. For that reason we regularly organise political events to make sure you have the most interesting immersive experience possible during your time in Nottingham. Some of the events we put on are guest lecturers, academic roundtables, book sales and, as a special events. Last year, we are proud to present a full debate between the parliamentary candidates for Nottingham South. This year, we are bringing you a Question Time style debate, alongside many other exciting events. To find out more about this and everything else that we’ve got on, just click on the News and Socials tab at the top of the page.

And as if this wasn't enough, we have a great Politics committee who, on top of doing all this, work with the Politics Department to provide advice and support to all Politics students in our active welfare network.
