Summer is always a busy time, with exams and the prospect of moving house, as well as wondering what you are going to do for money over the long Summer break. Your Student Advice and Representation Centre have provided answers and useful advice to some of these issues:
Summer Vacation Benefits
Some students may be able to increase their income over the long summer vacation by claiming benefits such as jobseekers allowance, income support and housing benefit. Students who are long term sick or disabled, or those with dependent children may be entitled to these benefits. Please contact the Student Advice and Representation Centre for further information if you think you may be able to claim. You can also email them.
Time to move out!
We work with Unipol, a charity based at University Park, to ensure you have the best houses to choose from when it comes to house hunting time. They have also produced a ‘Moving In Moving Out Special’, which provides a useful checklist and information to ensure that you are fully prepared for moving out. You can pick up one of these from the Student Advice and Representation Centre, B Floor, Portland Building, University Park.
Don't Panic!
Woken up on the morning of an exam and throwing up? Struggling with depression and your exams are round the corner? Facing bereavement and that piece of coursework is due in tomorrow? Don’t panic. If you think that your assessments are going to be affected by an unforeseen circumstance then you need to inform your school as soon as possible. You need to fill out an ‘extenuating circumstances’ form and submit it, with evidence of your situation, within seven working days of the assessment. For further help and advice you can email an education adviser.
