As the Olympics gets underway, we've been remembering when The Chris Moyles Show was broadcast live from our radio station, URN, as part of the BBC’s coverage of the Olympic Torch Relay.

“University Radio Nottingham was the only university radio station to receive a visit from Chris Moyles during the Olympic Torch Relay.” explained URN Editor and Nottingham student Robin Murphy. At other stops in their coverage the show broadcast from local BBC stations.

Robin continued “When we were first approached to host the show, I couldn't quite believe it. The Chris Moyles Show is probably the reason that so many of us got hooked on radio in the first place, and to welcome them to the University of Nottingham was an absolute pleasure.”

The Chris Moyles Show followed the Olympic Torch Relay across the UK, reporting on the flame’s progress through cities including Aberystwyth, Edinburgh and Exeter. Radio personalities Dave and Aled were out reporting live on the Torch in Nottingham and Lenton, chatting to local residents and students on the route. Chris Moyles and his team broadcast live coverage from the URN studio at the Students’ Union from 6.30am on Friday 29th June.

Robin Murphy commented “The show went out without a hitch, and it was great to have the whole team in the studios. It's a fantastic achievement for our station, but also a real endorsement from the wider radio industry that student radio is an exciting thing to be part of right now. I'm incredibly proud of the team from URN that worked so hard to make it happen, and the staff within the Students’ Union who have supported us”
