Keep the burglars away!

Keep the burglars away! Keep the burglars away!

This week is Crime Prevention Week and we’re running a number of events to remind you to look after your valuables and deter those nasty burglars.

Burglars on Campus
Crimes like pick-pocketing and burglary happen on campus as well as off, so you need to keep an eye on your belongings even in places that you might think of as ‘safe’ like lecture theatres or libraries. To make the point, there’ll be people dressed as burglars running round campus trying to catch you out, so if your stuff gets stickered whilst you’re off fetching a coffee, think about how much it’s worth to you and take it with you next time.

Love Your Stuff
The Police and University Student Ambassadors will be visiting houses in Lenton to talk to you about safety and crime prevention.

Top tips
Two top tips that we’ll be spreading the word about this week are:

Did you know that 25% of burglaries happen because a door or window’s been left open? Don’t make things easy for people with sticky fingers. Lock up!

If the worst happens and someone does nip into your room and pinch your valuables, you’re hugely more likely to get them back if they’ve been SmartWatered. SmartWater is a practically invisible mark that will help the Police identify your property should it fall into their hands. Find out more by calling 0115 915 3701 or visiting the Student Advice & Representation Centre (SARC) in the Portland Building.
