Hope to see you there!!
We are a group of volunteers comprised entirely of students from the University of Nottingham working for the charity READ International. We collect unused school books from students and pupils in Nottingham and send them to Tanzania to be used in schools there.
As part of READ International, we share the core value of education being the way to empower people around the world to achieve development. By providing educational materials to schools in Tanzania we hope to provide an improved level of education for Tanzanian students. Through our partnerships with local Nottingham schools, we provide British pupils the opportunity to become active global citizens themselves.
On a personal level, every READ Nottingham volunteer gains a great deal from their involvement; the fun of working in a team with like-minded people, the buzz of organising successful events, the empowerment of personal responsibility of an international project. Hopefully everyone is able to develop personal skills of organisation, leadership, self-confidence, and of course a little extra they can put on their CV.
There are three main ways of getting involved with READ International whilst at Nottingham. They are:
· Fundraising: cake sales, pub quizzes and film nights at the Savoy
· Book Collecting and Sorting: driving vans and packing boxes
· Think Global: the chance to teach in local schools
You have an opportunity to get involved with as many or as few parts of the Project as you want. If you want to know more specific details about different parts of the Project please email nottingham@readbookproject.org.uk and speak to the relevant Project Leader:
