Varsity
Every spring the University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University go head-to-head in fourteen events across ten sports at some of Nottingham’s best sporting venues including the Capital FM Arena and Meadow Lane (the home of Notts County) to find out which University gets bragging rights for the rest of the year.
The rules are simple
1 win = 1 point and the University with the most points at the end of the series wins the Varsity trophy. Last year Nottingham Trent University retained the Varsity trophy after drawing a thrilling series 7-7.
There are two things that make the Varsity series what it is. First is the intensity of the matches that often go right to the wire - last year both Ice Hockey and Mens Football were settled on penalties. Second, and what makes Varsity so unique, is the atmosphere that YOU create. Thousands of students from both Universities descend on the events and they bring a buzz that can only be found at Varsity.
As always, the Varsity series will be promoting, supporting and raising money for a charity. In the past, beneficiaries have included PASIC, Cardiac Risk in the Young, Nottingham Royal Society for the Blind and Balls to Poverty.
