Archery

The University of Nottingham Archers

Who we are...

The University of Nottingham Archery Club have represented the University in the age old sport of archery for many years. We welcome new members of any skill level and aim to bring new faces into the sport as well as show you how much fun the club is. We shoot competatively but many members join to have fun, which is also one of the goals of the club, so even if you only want to turn up to have a break from studying, you are welcome.

For new members to the sport we provide all of the equipment and coaching necessary for you to start shooting at a safe level, whether you want to shoot for fun or become a serious archer. Those who may already be experienced archers can join the club to receive coaching and compete in a new area of the sport.

When we shoot...

During Autumn-Winter we shoot most Wednesdays from 2pm-5pm and on Sundays between 10am-1pm at the University Park Sports Centre. During the Summer term we also shoot outdoors when it is sunny enough.

For those looking to take the sport more seriously we compete in a number of local and national competitions and tournaments across the country, the club is one of the top in the country. In 2011, our squad has been strengthened by having 2 top archers in the country, George Harding and Andrew Randall. Archers in the club greatly benifit from their coaching. Archery is currently one of the only sports clubs to give novices a chance to compete at tournaments separately to the experienced members, as we have a separate novice team made up entirely of new members to the sport. So even if you have not shot before you can be a part of the team. The regular competitions that we dominate year after year: BUTTS League , BUCS indoors & outdoors, BUTCCounty shoots. We are able to take a large team to many of these competitions, so it's always worth havong a go!

These tournaments are a great opportunity to compete against students from other Universities as well as local clubs, and look great on a CV as a non-academic interest. Over the last year the club has won numerous medals and trophies, and the upcoming year will be your chance to add to the growing list of victories for the club.

Social events...

We are a highly sociable club and have numerous organised social events throughout the year, including anual Xmas fun shoot, bowling, ice skating, a regular pub quiz and, weather permitting, BBQs. So you can get to know your fellow club members better and have a great time at University.

We now have a fantastic Social Sec in the club, details of the first few socials will be posted in various places (the forums, the website and the facebook group). So if you are interested in taking part keep an eye out or ask the Social Sec.

You can also join the University of Nottingham Achery Club Facebook Page, where details of socials and training sessions will also be posted .
