Taekwondo

Taekwondo is a fun, fast, effective martial art which helps to improve coordination, self-confidence, flexibility and general fitness, while equipping one for real-life self-defence.   We are a member of the Traditional Taekwondo Association (TTA), headed by GrandMaster T K Loh (9th Dan), who personally conducts gradings for all its members.  The TTA aims to instil in its students an understanding of mental strength and a persevering spirit.

We practise the WTF (Olympic) form of the Korean Martial Art through an enjoyable and rewarding syllabus of competition sparring, pattern-work, destruction and self-defence.  This traditional style of Taekwondo is taught in our club, with a knowledge of the scientific principles as well as a sound basis in medicine and physiotherapy.  It is a friendly club with an even distribution of male and female members who get involved in our numerous social outings and trips to national competitions and events, both to compete and spectate.   Senior club members also attend international compeitions.  Our club has achieved the Gold STARS Award this year for the fourth time in a row.

If you wish to join or try it out come along to a beginners' training session on a Monday (6-8 pm) or Wednesday (5-7 pm) at the University Sports Centre, or contact the committee for more details.  The first lesson is free and membership costs £5.
