Surf

We’re NUSURF, Nottingham’s chilled out, ego-free Surf Club. Despite being as far from the ocean as a surf club could possibly be, we’re one of the most active University Surf Clubs in the country.

We usually do three trips to the surf each term to well known surf spots such as St. Ives, Woolacombe and Newquay. A trip lasts a whole weekend, we leave Nottingham by minibus on Friday morning, coming home bleary eyed, exhausted but stoked and smiling late on Sunday night.

If you’ve never surfed before, don’t worry! We offer the perfect environment to try surfing - our Team Captain and many of our committee are experienced surfers and we’ll be more than happy to give you all the tips you need, you’ll be surfing before you know it! Don’t worry if you don’t have your own gear, board and wetsuit hire is included in the price of the trip, so all you need to bring with you is a towel, your swimmers, some cash for beer and food and most importantly a smile!

We’re regular competitors at the BUCS University Surf Championships, taking place at Fistral Beach, Newquay, where we enter a men’s and women’s team. So if you’re the next Kelly Slater, or if you just fancy entering for a laugh, let one of our committee know!

We have loads of socials, each trip comes with its own pre-trip social so you can get to know everybody before we go surfing. We have Halloween socials, a Christmas meal and epic BBQs in the summer. And if all that isn’t enough we have a 10 day Summer Surfari to France/Portugal sure to include plenty of surf/sun and campfire shenanigans.

“That’s enough, where do I sign?” I hear you say. Well first SIGN UP AT THE FRESHERS' FAYRE, or join on the University SU website. There’s also a super easy SWIM TEST for first timers Thursday 29^th 6:30pm at the Swimming Pool, Uni Park.

SIGN UP is Wednesday 5^th October at 7:30 pm in Mooch (the SU bar below the Portland building). Bring your chequebook or some cash, and come and join us for a drink and a chat. Even if you can’t go on a trip this term, come along anyway and meet the guys, and we’ll head out to BODEGA for some dancing and good times afterwards.
