Nottingham Knights Cheerleading Squad
Nottingham University is home to the Nottingham Knights Cheerleading Squad, a talented and dedicated Gold member of the Athletic Union. Last year the Knights were named as Nottingham AU's Club of the Year; a testament to our prowess and teamwork as a squad. As a team we combine stunts, dance and gymnastics to produce a series of championship winning and crowd pleasing routines.
Whether you are a professional gymnast or inexperienced and inflexible, Cheerleading is the club for you! It’s exciting, great exercise and a fantastic way to meet new people.
Varsity
We annually perform innovative routines at Football, Ice Hockey, American Football and Rugby Union varsity games, whilst also supporting Hockey, Basketball and Swimming varsities.
Competition Squad
Our competition squad of 25 girls also participates in regional and national competitions at a complex senior level three standard. Every member of the squad is given the opportunity to try out for our competition squad. We are defending senior level three regional champions for the second year running and ranked highest university at national level three ICC an outstanding achievement.
Tryouts
The Squad holds open tryouts at the start of each academic year which are open to all students and associates of the university. Tryouts are held over four practice sessions and cover a range of skill such as stunting, dancing and jumping. No experience is necessary; we encourage guys and girls from absolute beginners and all other levels to tryout. Practice
Our varsity squad train twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, an additional practice is required for our optional competition squad. A standard practice session covers a wide range of skills starting with a warm up, and can include dance sessions, stunting, jump sessions, conditioning and finishes with a warm down.
Socials
Work hard. Party hard. As a squad we have a great social life. We have regular socials every alternate Wednesday evening, these begin at our sponsor bar 'RED’ and then progress onto Crisis at Rock City. They are a lot of fun and a fantastic opportunity to make new friends and for the squad to bond and develop as a team, and fancy dress is often on the cards! The Athletic Union Ball towards the end of the academic year is always an amazing night. As a member of the Nottingham Knights Cheerleading squad you also get the opportunity to go on tour.
Charity
As well as socialising our squad is involved in various charity work, such as the Any Body Month university and varsity events together with our annual charity calendar and other fundraising avenues.
