Yoga Society

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable, loose clothing that you are able to move around in. Also try to have something to cover yourself with during relaxation (Shavasana), like a jumper or hoody.

Do I need to bring anything?

We provide yoga mats at all University Park campus classes, but for classes on Jubilee campus you need to bring your own yoga mat or a towel. You could bring a drink if you like. If you are a member, please remember you membership card to get member prices, and don't forget your loyalty card!

What type of yoga do you offer?

We offer both Hatha, Satyananda and Ashtanga yoga classes of various intensity. We also offer Pilates and balance.

How much is it per class?

It is £2 per class for members and £3 for non members.

Do I need sports membership?

No you do not need sports membership.

How much is membership?

Membership is £3 for the Spring Semester and with this you get a loyalty card from which you can get a free class if you get enough stamps!

I have purchased the membership, but how do I receive the membership and loyalty card?

To do this, please bring along a copy of your confirmation receipt to any sessions, either your email if you bought it online, or a receipt if you bought it in fresher's fair. Show it to one of the session coordinators and he/she will give you the membership and loyalty card.

I would like to become a member, how can I sign up?

To become a member: purchases the membership either online, http://www.su.nottingham.ac.uk/studentgroups/society/yoga/, pay when you check out. Or sign up by the door through one of our session coordinators. Pay £3, record your name and student ID and you will get your membership card and loyalty card.

How can I be up to date with your activities and regular information about your classes?

The best way to keep up to date with us is to check this website regularly, however, we do send out emails in the beginning of every week to all our members. So if you join our society, you will automatically receive them. We also have twitter: @UoNYogasoc and facebook: http://www.facebook.com/?ref=tn_tinyman#!/groups/7209935265/ so that members can ask questions on here also.

Why do you not provide mats on Jubilee campus?

Unfortunately we do not have anywhere to store our mats on Jubilee and it is neither practical nor safe for our instructors to carry 40 mats from UP to Jubilee each session. We are working on somewhere to store mats so that the class can be enjoyed freely by all. In the meantime, if you wish to attend this class, you can purchase a yoga mat for about £10 from Argos or Amazon.

I've never done yoga or meditation before. How can I start?

The best way to start is to join one of our classes, Hatha Yoga and Pilates are perhaps best suited to beginners level. However, all classes are open to all.

I am not a student, how do I attend classes?

You will firstly need to become an associate member of the SU. This is £5. Depending on your status, you will need to complete a certain form (seehere: http://www.su.nottingham.ac.uk/getinvolved/committeearea/documents/ and scroll to the bottom where it says Associate membership and select the right category. You will also need to become a member of the Yoga Society- you can do this on this form also. Include the correct payment and then drop it into Student Activities in the Portland Building and ask for it to be put in the Yoga pigeonhole. Please email us once you have done this/ if you have any questions.

I have health issues. Can I still attend your yoga classes?

Most of our classes are very gentle and the instructors can design special exercises or alterations for your personal needs. Please contact us at suyogasoc@nottingham.ac.uk if you are at all worried.
