The aim of Renewable Energy Society is to gather students who are interested in the energy field, and green technology. The society is committed to educate the members about the energy industry, and renewable energy technologies that are growing rapidly day-by-day. Renewable Energy Society has educational lectures as well as industry-experienced speakers for its events. The members of the Renewable Energy Society have a broad range of networking opportunities with the industry, academic leaders as well as the other energy field interested students. Every month, Renewable Energy Monthly (REM) is e-mailed to its members and it contains information about the latest renewable energy technologies, and developments in the industry.
We hold various events throughout the year. For 2011-2012 academic year, first semester we had the following activities and trips.
1. RenewableUK Conference in Manchester- Perfect opportunity to meet with energy companies particularly wind and marine.
2. Renewable Energy Quiz Night – An educational and fun night of renewable energy facts and figures in Europe and the UK.
3. Guest Speaker Event: Development of Offshore Wind Generation up to 2030 and Connection to the Transmission System. By National Grid
4. Guest Speaker Event:Reducing the carbon footprint of a 100 year-old house through energy efficiency and renewable energy by Dr. Arthur Williams
5. Guest Speaker Event: What role will coal and gas with CCS play in the UK electricity mix going to 2050? By Prof. Colin Snape
6. Trip to Trip to Ratcliffe Power Station.
