Our Aim: To target all of the real ale drinkers of the student body at the University of Nottingham and afford them the appropriate benefits due to their love of real ale
This year we hope to provide you with plenty of real ale activities to keep you entertained. A few of the events we will be running include: pub crawls, brewery tours (both in Nottingham and further afield), beer by tram, beer tastings, beer festival visits and advice on home brewing.
What does this group offer?
1) Around 5-6 events a term, past events have included themed bar crawls, brewery tours, beer by tram (massive bar crawl on the Nottingham tram system!), beer tasting, beer festival visits including Robin Hood beer festival at Nottingham Castle and other surrounding cities beer festivals, pub cellar tours, BBQ's and more!
2) We will be encouraging members to purchase home brew kits. The basic plastic 5 gallon bucket is priced at only £8 from Wilkinsons. Each 40 pint brew is less than £10 to buy (a can of malt extract and 1kg of sugar being your only purchases) and will take about 3 weeks to ferment in a minimum hassle process. Real ale, bitter, stout, cider and lager can all be brewed in this way.
The society has a number of home brew kits which you can loan out for a small fee.
3) For you freshers it's a chance to get to know town earlier than anybody else, visiting all the pubs with the combined knowledge of 2nd, 3rd and 4th years.
