Folk Soc

 

Welcome to Folk Soc!

Folk Soc gives you the chance to explore both folk music and folk dance. Regular socials are held (varies, usually once a fortnight or more depending on what gigs are on) and they revolve around the following:

MUSIC - we provide members with info of live gigs in and around nottingham, with our socials sometimes revolving around these. We encourage musicans - beginners, improvers, and more experienced - to attend 'folk sessions' together in a pub somewhere, to play, share and learn tunes and generally have a good time. Hopefully this will lead to a folk band, which we will support as much as possible.

DANCE - we hold ceilidhs (barndances) at least once a term, and we generally hear about other local ceilidhs too. These are really fun and everyone can join in - the dances are easy, talked through at the start of each dance, and generally they're full of students. We also teach rapper sword dancing (youtube!), which is 'danced out' in pubs... come along and try it out!

There is also an annual inter-varsity folk dance festival, which is a weekend of live gigs, dance workshops, ceilidhs, pub crawls, beer and lots of other uni students. Join nowwww! :)
