Hello and Welcome to English Soc!

We are your English Society, headed by a committee of English undergraduates sailing the seas of University life at Nottingham and we are here to help our fellow English students have the best experience possible.

As second and third year English students we know how important it is to mix and make friends with people on your course, and how difficult that can be with limited contact hours and various other commitments. That’s where we come in! We are here to create a variety of different opportunities for you to meet and socialise with fellow English students. As much as we love to party, we are about more than just an awesome social life. As well as bar crawls, nights out, boat parties and balls, we organise sports teams, theatre trips, coffee mornings, volunteering opportunities and buddy schemes!

Whether you are a first year or a postgraduate student, we all know how daunting and overwhelming aspects of University life can be. With this in mind, please know our door is always open if you have any issues or problems related to your course, specific queries about who to contact, or any general questions about University life.  As a first point of contact for any queries, feel free to contact our Vice-President and Welfare Secretary, Georgina Charles, by emailing her at aeygc1@nottingham.ac.uk.Our buddy scheme is set up for our older students to pass on their experience and knowledge of University life to our English Soc freshers. We will partner up first years in due course.

We are proud to represent you through English Soc, yet we know there is always room for improvement, so if you have any suggestions about events or how we can do something better, we would love to hear from you.

Membership is 4.00 for the year, which you can pay online via the Nottingham SU Website, and this entitles you to discounts on all our events and will put you our mailing list so that you are up-to-date on all we are doing.
