Neuroscience Society

Welcome to the University of Nottingham Neuroscience Society (NEUROSOC) 2011-2012 page!

Our society is designed to give those interested in Neuroscience at the University (though primarily Neuroscience students) a way of socialising and furthering our interest in this exciting area of biology. We may be a small society but we've gone from strength to strength since the society's creation.

Last year saw a massive increase in the number of social events, which our newly-elected Social Secs hope to improve on this year. With the election of a new Academic Coordinator, we also hope to have more educational events on offer. These include potential visits to the London or Blackpool Neuroscience Conferences and creating events for Brain Awareness Week (15-21 March 2011) around campus.

NeuroSoc supports the SU's Easy Tiger initiative, encouraging safe drinking and sex. Many people come to university expecting a drinking culture to be in place, and indeed in many courses and societies this is the case. However, due to the demands of the Neuroscience course it would be very unwise for people to drink to excess consistently. As such, if you choose not to drink on any social event we will respect that decision entirely.

The larger number of social and academic events last year was a fantastic achievement, but we are convinced that with a new committee Neurosoc can progress to further successes and improvements.Membership costs £5 for the year, and for this you will:

  • > Receive discounts for our various social and academic events;
  • > Be kept up to date on the society's events and progress through email.

With both academic events and regular socials giving you the chance to discuss this fascinating subject (and much more), for us it really is all about the head!
