Gilbert and Sullivan

Welcome!

The Gilbert and Sullivan Society is one of the university's most active societies, meeting weekly for rehearsals as well as a having busy social calendar. We put on two shows a year: our main show, performed in the Spring term at Nottingham Arts Theatre is always a Gilbert and Sullivan opera (this year we're performing Iolanthe), we also perform a smaller summer show, written by our own members.

We have no auditions for chorus parts, and there are also plenty of opportunities to participate in the orchestra and behind-the-scenes - so everyone's welcome. Membership is a real bargain - just £3 - for that you get to take part in two shows, enjoy weekly socials and vote at our general meetings. If you want to find out more, why not come to one of our rehearsals (Mondays at 7:30pm) in Willoughby Hall?

About the Society

As a society we have existed since 1973 and our first show was Trial by Jury. Very fitting, as it was the first of the Savoy Operas as well!

Previous shows have included: Pirates of Penzance (11, 06), HMS Pinafore (10), Ruddigore (09, 05), The Mikado (08, 03), Iolanthe (07, 01), The Gondoliers (12, 04), Princess Ida (02) and Yeoman of the Guard (00) and Pirates 1999 (99).

Rehearsals take place from October each Monday/Thursday at 7.30pm in the Willoughby dining hall.
