Karnival is the University of Nottingham's student-run charity, and the largest one of its kind in Europe, raising over £1.3 million in 2011, and over £1.4 million in 2010. Karnival raise money through weekly club nights in Nottingham, with Rehab @Gatecrasher, as well as the Karnival institutions such as Mr & Miss Nottingham, the 7-legged bar crawl and the biggest event of the year – the Snowflake Ball.
However, Karnival offers a lot more than just nights out. Rag-raids across the UK, including Londin Mega-raids, regularly raise tens of thousands of pounds for national charities such as RBL and Breast Cancer Campaign.
Taking hundreds of students on fundraising challenges, from climbing Mt Kilimanjaro to trekking to the lost city of the Incas, as well as smaller trips like London 2 Paris, Karnival helps the student's of Nottingham to raise hundreds of thousands for charity, whilst having the opportunity to go on the trip of a lifetime.
As well as fundraising activities, Karnival aid and support the local community through an Appeals fund, and volunteer support through Kontact, from farm trips to the annual Sherry Party for the elderly.
