Hello! I’m Elliott – your LGBT Officer for this academic year.
My role in the Students’ Union is to represent all students at the University who self define under the LGBT umbrella (anyone who identifies themselves as lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, questioning, asexual and/or unsure/undecided or anyone who self-defines as experiencing homophobia, biphobia and/or transphobia for not fitting into heteronormative society).
I have a vote on Students’ Union Council in order to represent the LGBT students’ voice. I am also chair of the LGBT Network committee, which is responsible for the social events, campaigns and welfare provisions for LGBT students.
Through this role, I wish to increase accessibility and interactivity with LGBT students at the University by increasing feedback from students and acting on it.
I also wish to continue the progress made in decreasing homophobia in halls; increase publicity and thus the visibility of the LGBT network on campus, and also keep the 3 purposes of the LGBT Network to a high standard – to provide excellent social events, campaigns and welfare support.
In 2011, the University of Nottingham LGBT Network won the award for ‘LGBT Society of the year’ at the annual NUS LGBT Awards.
I feel honoured to represent you as LGBT Officer and I will endeavour to make our LGBT Network even better. Please do not hesitate to contact me at sulgbtofficer@nottingham.ac.uk and I look forward to meeting you all!
