LGBT Network

About Us

Welcome to the University of Nottingham's Students' Union LGBT Network.

The LGBT Network represents all students who identify themselves as lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, questioning, asexual and/or unsure/undecided or anyone who self-defines as experiencing homophobia, biphobia and/or transphobia for not fitting into heteronormative society (quite a mouthful!) at the University of Nottingham.

As a network within the Students' Union (SU) our membership automatically includes all students who fall into our remit.

We receive a grant from the SU which means that we don't need to charge a membership fee or even keep a list of members (unless you join the mailing list below - which we recommend!). This means that any involvement you have with the LGBT Network can be confidential if you want.

We have three main roles, to provide support and information, to run campaigns on issues affecting our members and to organise a range of social events and activities.

In addition to our main website (www.uonlgbt.org), we also have two facebook groups:

- A public facebook group which can be found at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2202967728.

- A private/secret facebook group which you can be invited to (email us!).

Unlike the public group, this private/secret group will not be displayed in your facebook profile tabs and the members list will not be visible to people outside the group.

All the events will also be made with “(Private Version)” in the title and the weekly mailing will also be sent out on this group, so you won’t be missing out on anything!

LGBT Committee 2011-12

LGBT Officer : Elliott Reed

PhotoHello! I’m Elliott – your LGBT Officer for this academic year.

My role in the Students’ Union is to represent all students at the University who self define under the LGBT umbrella (anyone who identifies themselves as lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, questioning, asexual and/or unsure/undecided or anyone who self-defines as experiencing homophobia, biphobia and/or transphobia for not fitting into heteronormative society).

I have a vote on Students’ Union Council in order to represent the LGBT students’ voice. I am also chair of the LGBT Network committee, which is responsible for the social events, campaigns and welfare provisions for LGBT students.

Through this role, I wish to increase accessibility and interactivity with LGBT students at the University by increasing feedback from students and acting on it.

I also wish to continue the progress made in decreasing homophobia in halls; increase publicity and thus the visibility of the LGBT network on campus, and also keep the 3 purposes of the LGBT Network to a high standard – to provide excellent social events, campaigns and welfare support.

In 2011, the University of Nottingham LGBT Network won the award for ‘LGBT Society of the year’ at the annual NUS LGBT Awards.

I feel honoured to represent you as LGBT Officer and I will endeavour to make our LGBT Network even better. Please do not hesitate to contact me at sulgbtofficer@nottingham.ac.uk and I look forward to meeting you all!

General Secretary : Tyler O'Sullivan

Hi, I’m Tyler, and I’m a second year Politics student from London. As General Secretary I focus on the  admin side of things here at LGBT, helping the Officer with different bits and bobs and trying to keep things running smoothly.

But Gen Sec is a committee role  and that means I’d like anyone to feel they could contact me, have a chat or talk about anything LGBT or otherwise. I’m always happy to help and hope everyone has a great year :)

Feel free to get in touch E-mails always make me feel loved:
