Southwell Hall

Welcome to Southwell Hall!

With a population of 200 residents and is one of the most modern university halls at Nottingham. Located on Jubilee Campus, Southwell is close to Newark Hall and Raleigh Park, with University Park only a 10 minute walk away.

There is a great community atmosphere and a thriving social scene at Southwell. The hall is modern, light and spacious and offers a brilliant hall experience for any first year student! Boasting students from all around the world, Southwell brings people from all cultures and corners of the world together in a comfortable and friendly environment.

Southwell JCR Committee

The Current JCR Committee is in post until 31st October.

President: Kyle Blake

The President is here to lead the JCR committee, liaise with the Hall Warden and Management, the Students’ Union and other stakeholders and represents your hall at the monthly Students’ Union Council.

Vice-President: Martin Handley

Responsible for the JCR’s website, publicity and communications, co-ordinates the JCR committee elections and undertakes all Presidential duties in the absence of the President.

Treasurer: Kharan Patel

Prepares and manages the JCR budget, income and expenditure throughout the year and keeps the committee, residents, Students’ Union and University updated about the accounts.

Social Secretaries: Kathryn Kay and Ilaria Anibaldi

Plan and run activities and events in your hall, organises publicity and ticket selling for events and liaise with Karni and Week One Reps.

Sports Coordinator: Dara Obakin

Coordinates your Hall sporting events, liaises with team captains for the intra-mural sports league, organises equipment and kit for your hall sports teams and represents your hall sports through meetings with the Students’ Union.

Welfare Reps: Olagoke Solanke and Grace Cox

Look after the welfare needs of the residents in your hall, represents your Hall’s welfare concerns to Hall Management and the Students’ Union runs welfare campaigns and is a member of the Students’ Union Welfare Rep Network.

Environmental Officer: Madeleine Rogers

Liaise with the Students’ Union Environmental and Social Justice Rep to raise awareness and campaign about environmental issues in your hall, represent your Hall’s environmental issues to Hall management and the Students’ Union.

International Rep: Ani Naidu

Provides support for International Students living in Southwell by organising events, liaising with the Students’ Union International Officer about activities and promoting these.

News and Events

During the 2010/11 Academic year, Southwell JCR ran many successful events including cinema trips, the opportunity to go and watch a Nottingham Forest match, paintballing and a Spring Ball! Sports

Southwell Hall takes part in the Intra-Mural Sports (IMS) League, competing against other Halls and Societies. Teams include: Football and Netball. Speak to Dara, the JCR Sports Coordinator, to find out more about getting involved in these teams or other sports which the IMS League offer.
