Forum: What is democracy?
Date: Tuesday 30 November 2010
Time: 6pm - 7pm
Location: Room C20, Portland Building, University Park
What is democracy and what are its implications in the UK?
‘The University of Nottingham Students’ Union Forum exists to offer all students the opportunity to hear from, and engage with, leading figures and academics from across the University and the wider global community.’
October 2010 saw the launch of a brand new speaker series hosted by the University of Nottingham Students' Union in coalition with the University. This series will be entitled: University of Nottingham Students' Union FORUM
Information will go out in the fortnight leading up to the event, so look out for more details on posters, leaflets, this website and TV screens across campus.
The second speaker in the series will be Dr Mark Wenman (School of Politics & International Relations) on Tuesday 30th November in C20 Portland Building from 6pm-7pm.
He will be talking about the concept of democracy: what it is, how it has developed, and what it means for citizens of democratic countries, such as the UK. The aim is to give all students, and international students in particular, a better understanding of the concept, of democracy with a hope that it will allow them to engage more with British culture and also concepts like voting in Students' Union elections.
Admission is free- simply turn up and listen.
