This one-day event is intended to provide medical students and foundation year doctors intending to pursue a career in paediatrics or paediatric surgery a sound understanding of the speciality(ies) well as an opportunity to learn some relevant basic clinical skills.
The day will comprise of two distinct but related events. During the morning session, the delegates will have the opportunity to attend and gain insight into the working lives of paediatricians and paediatric surgeons, an overview of common paediatric conditions and emergencies, and lectures on career training paths and opportunities in paediatric medicine and surgery.
In the afternoon, there will be small-group workshops that will introduce to the participant some of the common and important clinical applications that will include paediatric life support, neonatal examination, principles of managing paediatric emergencies and trauma, and communications and ethics. Taught by clinicians, this highly interactive session will feature focus-group discussions to complement the interactive lectures in the morning.
